COVID was not slowing down and Don was no closer to being employed. Disheartened by the unglieness we were witnessing, we packed up our Jeep and left California in search of our country’s beauty.
We had plenty of hotel points so we decided to take the road trip we had always dreamed of.
It was hard to leave our son David and his wife Ani behind, our time with them had been wonderful as always, with the changes in our country we were not sure when we would see them again.
Our first stop was supposed to be Death Valley, calling we found out Badwater Road was still closed. Instead we drove through The Mojave Desert into Las Vegas, where we spent our first night in a Homewood Hotel with a kitchen in our room. Our goal was to cook all our own meals on the road to keep our contact with others down.
On arrival we sprayed the room down with lysol and cleaned every surface with Clorox. We brought our own sheets and pillows, so we stripped the bed and put on our own linens for the night.
Don made sausages and macaroni that night. We avoided the Las Vegas Strip that night as it looked much more crowded then it had when we drove up.
It was our first night of our 13 day road trip. We slept well that night anxious to see what the country had in store for us over the days ahead.
